Now that you have the math knowledge, what do
you do with it. Every student that has ever learned math has
uttered these fateful words: "When am I ever going to use this?"
Even you have probably said this. You'll find yourself doing math
in your head to try to figure out something, and suddenly you're
using that math you said you'd never use. I remember screaming and
yelling about learning fractions. Who cares what fraction of the
pie was eaten? The simple fact is that it was eaten. If you ate it,
you're lucky. If you didn't eat it, there's still some for you. It
was a waste of my time. Then one day I'm in the store trying to
figure out how much of my hard earned minimum wage money I was
going to have to shell out to buy a shirt that was 20% off.
Standing there in that store, I suddenly understood how important
my math knowledge was as I put the rip-off of a shirt back on the
rack.
Every single thing that was built, every statistic they throw at
you, and every gauge in your car is based on math. You can't go a
single place in this world without coming upon math at some point
in your day to day life. As you're pumping your gas, you have to
decide how far you're going to get on that $5 you're putting in
your tank if your car only gets 10 miles to the gallon. You will
wonder how big your room is and you're not going to measure every
square feet. You'll want to know how many cups are in that liter,
and what amount of servings of fat are in your kids lunchable. Math
is everywhere, and might well be one of the most important things
you learn. Look around, and learn the math.
